The Cork Ex Boxers Association was founded in 1972 By Tim O Sullivan and Paddy 'The Champ' Martin, Both former Irish International Boxers who were great friends and loved the sport of boxing.

It all began in the September of 1972, when Tim O'Sullivan, accompanied by members of his family, were in Dublin for the Cork and Kilkenny All-Ireland hurling final. On the day, O'Sullivan was strolling around O'Connell Street and bumped into his old friend and Boxing comrade, the famed Irish & European champion, Maxie McCullough. The Dubliner told him he was going to a meeting and invited Tim to join him, He assured him he would not be dissapointed. It was early in the Day and Tim left his Family and arranged to meet back up again within the Hour. Maxie Brought him to the meeting at a premises in Parnell Square where the 'Dublin Irish Boxers Mutual Benifet Association'

were congregating.Tim was very impressed with the ongoings of the morning and was delighted to meet up with old friends, that he hadn't seen in years. The following day, the Cork hurlers returned to Leeside without the McCarthy Cup, but Tim returned with the blueprint to set up what would forever be known As

'The Cork Ex Boxers Association'.

Immediately on return, Tim O'Sullivan met with Paddy Martin, informed him of his weekend excursion. Without hesitation, they both proceeded to contact,  all known Cork Ex Boxers within the County and invited them to become involved in their plans ahead. The fledging Association began to take shape, and meetings took place monthly at their headquarters which was the backroom of Canty's Bar on Pembroke Street. Over the years, 'The Cork Ex Boxers Association' have grown from strength to strength, They have made a great contribution to the sport of Boxing on Leeside for many years, and will continue to do so for many years to come. This website is a small insite into The Cork Exboxers Associations activities,,    We hope you enjoy Viewing
